However, the Bible provides us with guidance and wisdom on this matter. It reminds us that our worth and identity are not determined by the opinions of others but by God’s love and acceptance. By focusing on God’s truth and seeking His approval above all, we can find freedom from the burden of people-pleasing and live a life that is pleasing to Him.
Matthew 6:1-4
“Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”
This verse reminds us that our acts of righteousness should not be done to gain the approval or recognition of others. Instead, we are called to do good deeds with a sincere heart, seeking God’s approval alone. When we are motivated by the desire to please God rather than seeking the applause of others, we will receive a heavenly reward.
Proverbs 29:25
“Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe.”
This verse emphasizes the danger of living in constant fear of what others think. When we prioritize the opinions of people above God’s truth, we become trapped in a never-ending cycle of seeking approval. However, when we place our trust in the Lord and His promises, we can find security and protection.
Galatians 1:10
“Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.”
The apostle Paul reminds us that our primary focus should be on pleasing God rather than seeking the approval of others. When our desire to please people overtakes our desire to serve and honor Christ, we lose sight of our true purpose and identity as followers of Jesus.
1 Thessalonians 2:4

1 Corinthians 4:3-4
“I care very little if I am judged by you or by any human court; indeed, I do not even judge myself. My conscience is clear, but that does not make me innocent. It is the Lord who judges me.”
The apostle Paul’s words remind us that the ultimate judge of our actions and motives is the Lord.
